Student Interview

Gregory Budin (second interview)

Gregory Budin, Russia, St. Petersburg

Educational background

I graduated from Saint Petersburg State Polytechnic University, Master Degree Programme in International relations. During my studies in St. Petesburg I was working in several organizations that were dealing with International relations and politics on a high level (for example Administration of Pushkin City; International Assembly of Community of Independent States)

Study program, study sector?

I study in the Degree Programme in International Business, BBA. My specialization is International Marketing.

Why did you choose this study sector? How did you choose KyUAS?

Well, at first I came here for exchange and I somehow liked the atmosphere here. Moreover, I wanted to get some degree in Marketing as I believe it is a field from a “MUST-KNOW” category.

How does KyUAS differ from your earlier education units? What is especially good in KyUAS?

The main difference is KyUAS´ approach to education – it contains a lot of practical tasks. This is for sure a good point cause one needs to know the means how to adapt the gained knowledge in life situations.

How would you recommend your study sector to new applicants?

I definitely would recommend KyUAS and BBA program to people who are planning to work in business sector. To me marketing is one of the fields which are in use every day. The whole life actually consists of marketing – just think about it: finding yourself in life, social networking, applying for a job, etc. This is nothing but positioning, communication, value advantage and so on.

Have you enjoyed studying and living in Finland? Do you like the city you´re living at?

So far I have. However, I can hardly estimate the time I move away. At the moment I am pretty happy with my work and I hope I can grow up as a professional.

What has been the best part of your study? What have you enjoy the most?

The most joyful part of my studies were my classmates coming from different cultural backgrounds. And of course the attitude, in both ways: teachers’ towards us, and ours towards mates.

And what has been the most demanding part of the studies?

Monday mornings :) To be serious, my thesis work. The reason was that besides reading a lot of materials in absolutely different subjects, I had to produce something of my own. Frankly speaking I hate writing long papers, but somehow I liked what I produced finally.

Have you participated in any projects? What kind of projects would you be interested in?

That depends on what projects we are talking about now. The biggest project I ever participated in was establishment of my own company in Finland :) Now when I am done with my studies I can contribute more time to it. Hopefully, it will be a success.

How would you encourage people to become international?

I don’t think any encouragement is needed. I would just say that nowadays it is almost impossible to be successful and not being international. Knowing other cultures and ways of living is essential from communication point of view. Going on exchange gives a great opportunity to learn something new, to meet new people who can become friends and to try yourself in others’ shoes. Exchange is a great school of life which broadens your mind.

Your future plans?

I´m actually working already, at the International Affairs office of KyUAS. My dream job is something connected with marketing and promotion. I cannot say anything more exact at the time but oh yeah, I will start working! I just have to try a lot to make my choice.

Marketing is always open for fresh ideas. I hope employers think the same way. If so, everything is just fine. I am also planning to get MBA degree, which shall be my forth higher degree. Then that’s enough :)

Greetings to your fellow students

I want to wish success to everybody and I hope we meet from time to time. Let’s keep in touch! My congratulation to all the graduates!
