Student Interview

Joseph Donkor

Donkor Joseph is my name. I´m 29 years old Ghanaian,
living in Eskolanmäki, Kouvola.

Educational background

Computer studies in senior secondary school in Ghana. I worked for the national identification authority as data entry staff and I was responsible for capturing biometric data of citizens and immigrants.

Study program, study sector?

I´m studying in Degree Programme in International Business for the first year and I would like to specialize in International Trade as my field of study.

Why did you choose this study sector? How did you choose KyUAS?

KyUAS has the best course structure in International Business and a top-rated IT infrastructure which enables students to make a progress in their academic work.

The courses are well defined to enhance your professional growth and prepare you for the job market. KyUAS also provides students with many presentations from guest speakers and this go a long way to motivate the students.

How does KyUAS differ from your earlier education units? What is especially good in KyUAS?

This is one of the best universities in terms of facilities, course structure and better presentation of academic work by lectures.

How would you recommend your study sector to new applicants?

I have already recommended KyUAS and the studies to my relatives and friends. They are willing to join me next academic year. They have started with the application process.

Have you enjoyed studying and living in Finland? Do you like the city you´re living at?

I´ve been living in Eskolanmäki, Kouvola for the past three weeks. The place is very quiet and serene for studies. I enjoy the breeze of the natural environment but it´s also very cold. I will stay here till the end of my degree.

What has been the best part of your study? What have you enjoy the most?

Group discussions in classes. IB01 is an international class of students and that also reflects on our views of issues concerning culture, values, etc.

And what has been the most demanding part of the studies?

Language studies (such as suomi).

Have you participated in any projects? What kind of projects would you be interested in?

No I haven´t yet, but I would be interested in marketing project for multinational company. I want to know more of public speaking and presentation skills in projects.

How would you encourage people to become international?

You are exposed to many languages and you can take advantage of that in order to learn more. If you travel, your perspective of culture, values and norms changes when you meet different people. It also creates good employment opportunities, contacts and friends.

Your future plans?

I would like to continue my education in International Trade further. In working life I would like to act as an International Trade Consultant.

The global trade is a booming sector since exchange of goods and services are everyday activities we all engage with the well being of individuals and the society as a whole. The future looks bright because globalization has spurred the trading activities to upturn in all over the world and all the activities deals with trade.

Greetings to your fellow students

I will take this opportunity to greatly praise all the International Business students, friends and all the African students and the entire staff in KyUAS.
