Engineer (B.Sc), Double Degree Programme in Energy Engineering

The degree comprises  240 credit points.
The student must have completed 160 credit points (ECTS) in home university. In KyUAS student will pass 80 credit points.
The duration of studies at KyUAS is 1 year.

The language of instruction is English.
The studies will begin in autumn 2012 with 20 study places available in Kotka..

Education is suitable for foreign students who have studied mechanical, energy, electricity or automation engineering at their home university .

Education Outcomes

Studies in the Degree Programme in Energy Engineering lead to a Bachelor`s Degree of Engineering (B. Sc. in Eng). This education gives students competences in environmental friendly and economical energy productions, and in innovative energy technology and engineering. Modern learning methods support students’ communication and co-operative team-work skills and graduates are able to work in international projects.

According to the Finnish regulations this education of energy engineering gives graduates required competence to work as managers of power plants and to be in charge of safety operation of power plants.

The curriculum includes the main and most important professional courses from Energy Engineering Degree Programme providing the students a comprehensive knowledge of environmental friendly energy production. The programme is aimed for students who want to build an international career requiring good language and sound professional  skill combined to the ability to get along with people from different cultural backgrounds.

Energy engineering degree programme at KyUAS has received the quality award of The Finnish Higher Education Evaluation Council (FINHEEC). We are specialized in environmental friendly energy production and our emission measurement laboratory is accredited to carry out exhaust gas emission measurements. We are realizing several research projects related to reduction of environment emissions and development of wind energy technology. Students may take part in these research projects during their studies.There are also several dynamic power plant simulators in our educational use, which gives the students good understanding of practical operation of complex power plant processes. These simulator courses are arranged worldwide.

How to apply

There are 20 available study places. Application period deadline is 15.4.2012. The entrance examination will be held in May 2012. The test can be arranged at your own university. Admission results are published in June 2012. Studies will start on Monday 3.9.2012 in KyUAS Campus of Technology and Transport in Kotka.

The required application attachments are

  • Academic transcript from the home university
  • Copy of IELTS 6.0 or original TOEFL paper-based 550 / internet-based 79-80 for proof of English proficiency. B2 level of the Europass language assessment grid is required.
