Degree Programme in Health Promotion
Higher University of Applied Sciences Degree in Health Promotion
The scope of the degree programme is 90 cr, of which 60 cr is professional studies and 30 cr for the Master's thesis. The studies last approximately 2.5 years.
The language of instruction is English. Contact teaching 2-3 days per month in Kotka, Finland.
The studies will begin in autumn 2013, 20 student places. (No intake in 2012)

Evidence-based development of your professional practice
The programme focuses on the evaluation of health situation and risk factors on the level of population, community and individual, on the utilization of epidemiologic data, and on methodological issues related to health promotion.
The programme aims at an evidence-based development of your professional practice as a designer and coordinator of health promotion activities. In addition, special attention is paid to interdisciplinary leadership and management to support your managerial career. The Master's thesis made as a development project as well as a range of optional studies deepen your expertise.
The studies begin each year in August, and it is possible to graduate in two years. The programme requires participation 2-3 days a month, little less in the second year. Contact sessions are held mainly in Kotka.
Study methods include lectures, independent work, group work, e-learning, seminars, and study visits. Independent work between the contact sessions is supported by Moodle e-learning environment and Adobe ConnectPro conference tool.
The programme serves fields of health care, social services, and sports by producing experts in health promotion who are also prepared for managerial challenges. A higher university of applied sciences degree produces the same competency for public offices and tasks as a higher academic degree.
Additional information regarding application and selection: Applicants for this degree programme require a suitable university of applied sciences degree (for example a Bachelor of Health Promotion) or other suitable academic degree and also three years of work experience in the field in question. An applicant that has previously completed post-secondary level vocational education (such as sairaanhoitaja or terveydenhoitaja in Finnish) and then later gone on to complete a degree in a university of applied sciences after a period of work, is required to have three years of work experience after completion of the post-secondary level vocational degree.

There are no pre-assignments for this degree programme. Applicants who have acceptably completed all the requirements for eligibilty will be invited to the entrance examination. The entrance examination will be held in Takojantie 1, Kotka.
