Student Interview

Gregory Budin

Gregory Budin,
St. Petersburg Russia
Future Bachelor of Business Administration

Gregory Budin is currently studying in International Business Degree Programme of Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences. Gregory is originally from St. Petersburg, Russia, and he has studied International relations in University of St. Petersburg.

He has always wanted to study business and he feels it is a close field for him. In his International Business studying group there are also other foreign students, for example from China and Bulgaria.

Gregory came to Finland two years ago because of working placement at KyAMK’s International Office. He was offered a job and at the same time he entered KyAMK. At International Office Gregory is working as an assistant in Russian issues. He for example takes care of student exchange and organizes different events.

In his opinion studying in Finland differs a lot from studying in Russia. “Studying in KyAMK is much more practical, but I think it works well in combination with theoretical education”, he says.

He would recommend studying in Finland to foreigners, especially if they already have an academic degree and would like to improve their English. “Relations between students and teachers are very close in KyAMK. Quality of education is also good.”

Gregory had a minor culture shock when he first arrived to Finland, but he overcame it pretty quickly. “Kotka is a very small and quiet city so it is very different from St. Petersburg where I’m from. But I’ve used to Kotka now and I think that Kotka provides everything you need to have a good life.”

He says that the Finns are said to be very cold people according to stereotypes. However, he never faced it himself. “When you become friends with Finnish people, you get a long term friends!”

Gregory will graduate from Bachelor of Business Administration year 2009. “I do not have any dream job. All I need to have some freedom to make my own decision…and money.”
