Study program, study sector?

"Nguyen Linh Phuong, 22 years old. I am Vietnamese. I am from Vietnam."

I am studying for an International Business (BBA degree) at KyUAS. My specialization is trade.

Why did you choose this study sector? How did you choose KyUAS?

I chose KyUAS because it offers me many opportunities to be a part of the international environment here. Moreover, the field I´m studying, International Trade, enables me to exploit and understand conducting business in a multinational context in detail.

How does KyUAS differ from your earlier education units? What is especially good in KyUAS?

The previous school I studied in was in my home country and the study environment in KyUAS is quite different to the one in Vietnam. I feel more active and flexible when studying in KyUAs. In KyUAS, my English and interpersonal skills have improved significantly.

Moreover, I´ve gained more practical knowledge in KyUAS through real projects and group assignments than in the high school in my home country. In fact, I consider the practical tuition to be the best teaching method in KyUAS.

How would you recommend your study sector to new applicants?

I would recommend the International Business (Bachelor of Business Administration) as one of the fields offering the most potential fields to students who want to succeed in  international business.  For students who combine studying and working, a bachelor’s or, master’s degree will be really useful for them to attain promotion in their career. I especially  recommend this study field to those who are active, extrovert, and flexible.

Have you enjoyed studying and living in Finland? Do you like the city you´re living at?

I have enjoyed the nice weather and autumn in Finland. It has such beautiful nature with the red leaves and yellow sunshine.

In winter, I sometimes  feel depressed due to the freezing wind and snow, and get homesick as well as having a wide range of things to do for my school work.

However, having been in Finland for about 3 years, I have identified means to improve everyday my balance and control to help avoid stress due to the extremely chilly weather in winter.

I will have approximately half a year to accomplish all of the academic credits as well as the compulsory thesis to graduate from KyUAS and leave Finland to return to my country, Vietnam.

What has been the best part of your study? What have you enjoy the most?

The best part of my studies as I mentioned earlier is the practical part. There are some courses which I consider quite relevant and helpful for me in my future career path, such as Innovative Working, Research Work, Quantitative Research Method, Business English, Labour Law, Human Resource Management,  International Trade Practice, and so on.

And what has been the most demanding part of the studies?

In my opinion, the most demanding part of my studies is the tightness of assignment deadlines that lecturers give in different courses. I hope that the timetable in KyUAS will become more flexible to let students have more time to finish and implement assignments.

Have you participated in any projects? What kind of projects would you be interested in?

Yes, I have participated in two projects. One was for a course named called Project Seminar. The title of the project is Internationalization in KyUAS. The other one is for my specialization training and named the International Week, which took place from 26 September to 30 September (For more information about this project: www.kyamk.fi/koskinen ,issue number 5/2011)

How would you encourage people to become international?

As in my experience, to encourage people become international, there should be various international activities for persons to participate in.  From my point of view, people can be international only when they are willing to do so and get involved in real practices.

Furthermore, the facilities, techniques should also be international ones, which means they should be up-to-date and advanced to create comfortable feeling for users. For instance, in an international school like KyUAS, there should be adequate equipment, studying rooms for teaching and learning, and also more social, international events for students, staff, and teachers. In terms of becoming an exchange student, studying language, and working abroad, it provides people with more chances to integrate and take part in globalization worldwide.

There will be new culture, new cuisine, new patterns, new scope of knowledge, etc. in foreign places which are actually different from a person’s home country’s to discover.

Your future plans?

In the future, I intend to work towards a Master degree and go back to Vietnam to search for work in multinational companies. I will focus on organizations which are collaborating with Finland to share and use my experience of my long studying time here :)

Greetings to your fellow students

The evaluation week is coming. Prepare well and good luck  in your exams :)
