Introduction
My name is Felix Hora. I´m 28 years old and have a temporary residence in Finland. Originally I´m from Transilvania, Romania.
Educational background
I graduated in 2005 from the University of Art of Bucharest with a BA degree in Graphics.
Study program, study sector?
At the moment I am in my 2nd year of studies in the Industrial Design department taught in English at KyUAS.
Why did you choose this study sector? How did you choose KyUAS?
I chose KyUAS because its design department, the English teaching and because there are no tuition fees. I chose to study design because I realized that it is more in my nature than Graphics.

How does KyUAS differ from your earlier education units? What is especially good in KyUAS?
One of the differences is that unlike in the university where I previously studied, in KyUAS I have the whole responsibility of what I am doing with my studies. The teachers are giving good enough grades to pass the courses, and from what I´ve seen so far, the only way to fail a course is to miss the lessons.
The fact that the student is not guided to exact paths by the teachers but is left to experience things, sometimes fail and also succeed, helps in my opinion a lot to develop one’s sense of responsibility and way of learning.
How would you recommend your study sector to new applicants?
For someone who wants to study design, I could tell that this school provides all the necessary conditions to study. Great teachers, challenging tasks and great workshops.
I would recommend this school for those who know already what they want to study and those who are willing to do a lot of studying in their free time.
Have you enjoyed studying and living in Finland and in Kouvola?
I enjoy very much being here, especially because of the school. I don’t have a lot of free time, so I couldn’t say much about the town. As for the future, I´m planning to go abroad as an exchange student for the year 2011 - 2012.
What has been the best part of your study? What have you enjoy the most?
I have mostly enjoyed my second year of studies compared to the first one. So far the teachers provided us with great tasks such as projects for existing companies and very challenging contests.
And what was the most demanding part of the studies?
I can’t name just one thing as the most demanding part. Everything is demanding since I´m trying to do the best I can for all the courses. This sometimes ends up with postponed deadlines or sometimes also unfinished tasks but I also evolve a lot and learn more and more with every task.

How would you encourage people to become international? It has been a great experience for me to be here and even though I tried to criticize things at the beginning based on the differences between this university and the one I´ve studied before, I became to realize that they have both taught me a lot. These two universities differ a lot and I had a lot to learn from trying something new. This is also my main reason for wanting to go for an exchange program - I want to learn more from new experiences. Your future plans?A dream job for me would be one in the field of design so I am applying for internships to design companies. At the moment I´m taking every kind of jobs just to make my living. Unfortunately none of these are in the field of design. As for my studies, after the exchange program year I´m planning to graduate from KyUAS and after that to go for Master´s degree. Greetings to your fellow studentsI wish everyone good luck with the studies. I also have a drawing exhibition now at the university’s library which I hope will bring the smile on the visitors’ faces. Best regards! |
