The goals agreed with the Finnish Ministry of Culture and Education for the period 2013–2016:

Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences focuses on

• education that improves the area’s economic structure
• research and development activities.

Kyamk’s profile is based on expertise in international affairs and Russia, working in co-operation with the field of Finnish higher education and the business world.

Kyamk specialises in

• environmentally friendly energy sources and their use;
• competitive logistics and sea transport and their safety;
• user-driven well-being and planning services.

Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences and Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences constitute a strategic higher education unit with one owner. Their joint focus in the agreement period will be on co-operation in Russian affairs.
