Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences is a limited company owned by the cities of Kotka and Kouvola, and the municipality of Iitti. In addition to the limited company board, the university of applied sciences has its own board of directors responsible for developing the university operations and manage the internal administration of the university in cooperation with the Rector/Managing Director.

Starting 1 January 2011, Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences has two Vice Rectors.
One Vice Rector/Vice Managing Director is responsible for the development of education. The other Vice Rector has the responsibility for the general strategic development and the common development operations in the university of applied sciences, as well as the coordination of R & D and the operations of Kymiedu Education Centre.

Education, R & D, and regional development projects are the responsibilities of units. KyUAS comprises four units: three faculties (International Business and Culture, Social and Health Care, and Technology and Transport) and the Training Services. Each faculty has its own R & D centre: KymiDesign and Business, KymiCare, and KymiTechnology. The Language Department is responsible for language teaching in all units.

KyUAS also has eight service units: Human Resources Services, International Affairs, Housing
Management, Library and Information Services, Student Guidance and Administration, Financial
Management, Data Administration, and Communication Services.
