Library services

Lending

The library services can be used after submitting personal details to one of the locations of the library. Application forms are available in the library. The customer obtains a library card which enables borrowing . The same card can also be used in public libraries within KYYTI library network in the Kymenlaakso region after first submitting personal details to the register of this network.

Books, magazines and journals can be borrowed for 14 days and audio-visual material for one day. After this, any material borrowed must be returned or the loans must be renewed.

The library charges for reservations made, overdue items, information services, interlibrary loans and photocopying.

Collections

The KyAMK library provides

• books (about 100,000 items)
• magazines and journals (about 500 volumes subscribed + electronic journals)
• audio-visual material
• student's theses
• electronic material

Library users can retrieve information using the computers available in the library facilities. The library has acquired user rights to several services, which, consequently, may be accessed only through the KyAMK network.

Electronic library

The library's own title database and title databases of other libraries in Finland can be browsed via the Internet. Customers can use the electronic magazines and newspapers and online databases purchased by the library through computers connected to the KyAMK network. The staff and students of Kymenlaakson ammattikorkeakoulu, University of Applied Sciences can access electronic journals, e-books and databases outside the network of the KyAMK via Nelli portal or Electronic Library. Interlibrary loan service

The library supplies interlibrary loans and copies of material not included in its own collections. Interlibrary loans are also possible from the collections of the library of Kymenlaakson ammattikorkeakoulu to other libraries.

Teaching of information management skills

The library provides instruction for all new students in how to use the library and retrieve information. New students are introduced to the lending practices, collections and the KYMI database at the very beginning of their studies. Later on during their studies students are introduced to the main sources of information in the respective fields of expertise.
