Student counselling 

Student counselling provides the student with necessary information and guidance in different stages of the studies. The student’s own responsibility for the studies is the starting point for the counselling process. Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences is responsible for arranging sufficient counselling to enable the student to build up a meaningful degree feasible to be completed in the statutory duration of studies.

Student counselling is an everyday activity at Kymenlaakso UAS. All the staff participates in the counselling, which responds to the student’s needs. Good counselling helps and encourages the student in planning the studies and solving the problems in their progression.

Services of a qualified student counsellor are available in every educational unit of Kymenlaakso UAS. The students can make appointments for individual counselling, for example to overcome learning blocks and difficulties. Detailed information on the reception hours of the student counsellors is available at the student affairs offices and on the noticeboards.

The International Affairs Office is responsible for the administration related to student exchange and work placement abroad (contracts, applications, etc.). The Sector Coordinators focus on the academic issues concerning periods abroad (courses, etc.).

Each student group has a tutor teacher, who makes during the orientation studies together with the student the individual study plan. The ISP is updated every academic year throughout the study time.

Teachers are the advisors of their own courses. In addition to that, the fields of study may have tutor teachers in particular subjects, such as mathematics or languages.

Student tutors of degree programmes also help the students. They, for example, familiarise new students with the practices of the house and advise them in utilizing various student services from the beginning of the studies.
